Step 1: Go to official website of Sassa

Step 2: Start your registration

Before applying, you have to register yourself as a new user on the website. For registration, click on the yellow “Register” button present on the homepage. You’ll need to fill in some personal information given below.

  • Enter your residential status whether you are a South African citizen, a permanent resident, or a refugee.
  • Enter the number from your ID.
  • Choose what kind of ID you have (regular ID document or temporary ID).
  • Re-enter your ID number for verification.
  • Choose if you’re Mr., Mrs., or Miss.
  • Enter your full name.
  • Enter your surname.
  • Give your email address.
  • Choose your password. Make sure to enter a password with at least 8 characters. The password must contain uppercase and lowercase letters. Also do not forget to add special characters, symbols and numbers. You have to make sure that the password must not be easy to guess to assure safety.
  • Enter your 10-digit South African phone number that starts with 0.

Step 3: One-Time-Pin (OTP) Verification 

After putting your phone number, click the button to get an OTP. You will receive an OTP on your number that you give. When you receive this OTP, enter it on the website to make sure your registration is complete. This confirms that your phone number is correct and active and you are using it currently.

Step 4: Login to your account

Use the username and password you chose at the time of registration to log into your account. Make sure to enter them correctly.

Step 5: Apply for a grant

Click on the button of “Apply for a Grant” and then choose the kind of grant you want to apply for. 

Step 6: Fill the form

Now, fill the grant application by giving all information and details. Make sure to enter correct and up to date information to avoid rejection.

Step 6: Print and Certify

Print out the affidavit that SASSA gives you and get it stamped by someone official, like an Oath commissioner. Also, print, sign, and submit the Bank Payment Form along with your affidavit.

Step 7: Upload Documents

After finishing, click “Continue” to go to the next page where you can upload the documents you need to provide. Upload the documents which are necessary.

Step 8: Confirmation

After submitting, you’ll get a text and an email with a special reference number. You can use this number later if you want to check sassa application status.
